F.A.Q.

1. What are the advantages of owning a train horn?

Primarily, a train horn signaling system will increase your chance of being heard in an emergency situation. Often, in the roar of high speed big rigs on the interstate, a stock horn may not be heard. Your new air horn will be heeded in all situations, from a child about to run in the street to retrieve a ball to an approaching car about to drift into your lane.

Oh yeah, did we mention that they are a lot of fun?

2. I'm concerned about installation. Can I do this myself?

Kits are meant for easy installation. The concept is simple--basically, the compressor feeds the pump which feeds the horn. Components are powered by 12V standard DC vehicle power. Everything that you need including air hose, fittings and wiring is included in the kit.

Follow the directions closely for a good installation. Don't forget to use thread tape for an air tight install. Don't leave out any components. We can't be responsible if components fail due to an improper install or inappropriate operation.

Your installation will go quicker with a knowledgeable friend helping out. Some users feel more comfortable hiring a garage to do the work. If you want to go this route, we recommend contacting a business that specializes in alarm/remote starter/audio installations as they are very familiar with 12V DC wire-ups.

3. What about support?

We're here for you both before and after the sale via e-mail or phone support.

4. After I order, how long until I receive my train horn?

Most often we ship out within 48 hours. Due to high demand, Dominion products sometimes take up to 72 hours to ship. In the continental US, shipping time is typically 5-7 business days. International order shipping time is commonly 1-2 weeks. We will contact you if there is an undue delay in the processing or shipping of your order.

5. I've seen cheaper train horns outfits. What's the difference?

Cheap kits are available. Expect two liter or smaller tanks (good for just a couple toots), cheap tank/compressor combo units that work slowly and noisily and inefficient horns. You get what you pay for. Buy a quality system that you can trust with the bright loud air horn sound you're looking for.

6. Why don't I see db ratings for your kits?

Like watts for amplifiers, db ratings are often misleading. Under what circumstances were the decibels determined? How far away from the horn was the measurement taken? What device was used to measure? When was it last calibrated? BEWARE OF THE DB RACE! Most ratings we see are ridiculous. Any exposure to 150+ dB sound causes immediate ear damage (and causes actual pain). Be assured our horns are very loud. We design that right in from the get-go. Generally, the higher the stage/level, the louder the horn.  Generally, our kits fall in the 140-150 db range which is extremely loud close up and loud enough to be heard in all situations.

7. Does your merchandise carry a warranty?

Yes. Our products carry the standard warranty for these type components. See our Terms and Conditions under "Links" for details.

8. What's the difference between the Dominion and Legend lines?

Both are pro grade train horn lines that are appropriate for the discerning customer who cares about his ride and values quality over saving a few dollars. Be sure to compare component capacities to make sure they will fit your needs and space limitations. Each line contains differently sourced components but, for a particular price bracket, are very similar.

The Dominion line allows more customization. If you would like a to substitute a different part(s) in the kit, please contact us. We'll get back to you with a quote.

9. Why the different size tanks?

The larger the tank, the more blasts between re-fills. You'll have to balance tank size with the space you have in your vehicle. Two compressors operating in tandem will provide eye popping refill times even with large tanks.
